The work of artiste managers is no child’s play; they have the responsibility of ensuring their artistes succeed and stay at the top and they have to put in a lot of work to make sure that happens.
Mainly behind the scenes, these managers do all the heavy work including promoting songs, securing interviews, managing social media handles, and giving the artistes the room to express their creativity.
And some of them have said that their work is callous and goes beyond what the public sees, in what is so often a thankless job.
One of them, Busumuru Sean Kingston, one-time manager of Kumawood actor cum musician Lilwin, said in the studios of Nhyira Fm that one needs to be spiritually strong to successfully manage a Ghanaian artiste.
“You have to be strong spiritually to manage a Ghanaian artiste like Lilwin and other celebs. One thing is that anything can happen to you the manager if you are not strong.
“A lot of attacks do come as other people too are envious about your position as a manager so they plan a lot of evil things to make you fail so they can take over from you”, Busumuru said.
When Busumuru was quizzed by Ruthy, the host, about his experience managing Lilwin, he had this to say;
“If I am to manage any artiste in the future, I would have to prepare myself spiritually before I can take that position because of my past experiences with Lilwin. You can even die if you joke with your spirituality”
