The Ghana Air Force mourns and deeply regrets the loss of one of its officers during the commemoration of the 67th Independence Day on March 6, 2024.
It was during the parade of the 67th Independence day celebration, which took place at the Youth Resource Centre in the Eastern Region Koforidua, where Flight Sergeant (F/SGT) Armah Nii Okai Mensah Alfred fainted and was rushed to the hospital.
Thereafter, his condition became worse and that was where he met his untimely death.
The Air Force stated that F/Sgt Armah was recognized for his strong work ethic, respectfulness, and professionalism, highlighting his dedication and exceptional skills in his field.
Thus on Thursday, March 7, 2024, a delegation headed by Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi, the Chief Staff Officer, visited the bereaved family to formally communicate the tragic news.
Following this, On Thursday, March 7, 2024, the Air Force released a statement conveying their sorrow and offering condolences for the passing of F/SGT Armah.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of Flight Sergeant (F/SGT) Armah Nii Okai Mensah Alfred. He was the supernumerary for the Air Force Male Contingent on parade during the 67th Independence Day Parade, which took place on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre.
“The sad event occurred at the Koforidua Government Hospital, where he was receiving treatment after he collapsed during the 67th Independence Day Anniversary Parade. F/Sgt. Armah was a hardworking, respectful, and professional airman. He was diligent and highly proficient in his chosen career, and his absence would be sorely missed,” a part of the statement read.
“We convey our deepest sympathies to all, especially the deceased family, and we entreat all to respect the privacy of the family of the late Senior Non-Commissioned Officer during this difficult period. Funeral announcements will be communicated later,” the statement added.
