Spain‘s possession-oriented masterclass finds a direct ideological clash with Uruguay‘s fierce, high-pressing tenacity. Saudi Arabia brings highly disciplined tactical organization, while Cabo Verde enters as a dangerous, technically gifted wildcard.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially underway, with the tournament having kicked off on June 11. This year marks a historic expansion to 48 teams competing across 12 groups. Around half of the field has already played their opening match in the group stage, which spans a comprehensive schedule of 72 group stage matches.

The group dynamics are set to look vastly different from previous editions. While traditional World Cups saw exactly half of the teams qualify for the knockouts (16 of 32), the 2026 format increases that progression margin to two-thirds (32 of 48 teams). The top two nations from each group will advance automatically, alongside the eight best third-placed teams across the tournament.
