A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani East Constituency has been apprehended by the police for capturing photos during the party’s parliamentary primary at the Catholic Pastoral Centre.

In the constituency, around 982 delegates cast their votes to choose the parliamentary candidate for the 2024 election.

They chose either Ambassador George Kumi, a former diplomat, or Mr Kwasi Asomah-Cheremeh, the current Member of Parliament (MP).

The event occurred at approximately 10:30 AM on Saturday, when an unidentified suspect captured images of himself voting.

During the procedure, a different representative observed his behavior and informed the authorities, resulting in his apprehension.

The media was not spoken to by the police. Nevertheless, the election process was not hindered and was overseen by the Electoral Commission (EC).

The NPP’s parliamentary primary, which was initially scheduled for Saturday, January 27, had to exclude the Sunyani East constituency due to internal challenges.

However, the national leadership successfully addressed these challenges and has now rescheduled the primary for March 9.
