
TODAY: The first contest of the Semi-final Stage of the 2025 National Science & Maths Quiz featured the reigning champions, Mfantsipim School, in a fierce showdown against Mankranso SHS and GSTS.
Before the start of the contest, the auditorium was filled with chants and jama songs from all three schools, creating an electric atmosphere.
Anticipation and tension hung thick in the air as contestants mounted the stage. All eyes were on them, eager to see who would secure qualification for their school to the next stage.
Contestants shared with the Quiz Mistress, Professor Elsie Effah Kauffmann, their motivation for joining the quiz, noting that it had been a desire birthed from watching previous editions of the National Science & Maths Quiz.
When Round One began, contestants struggled to provide the correct answers to the questions. However, as the contest progressed, Mfantsipim School found their footing and picked up bonus points, which boosted their initial scores. At the end of the round, Mfantsipim School led with 17 points, GSTS followed with seven points, and Mankranso SHS trailed with six points.
In Round Two, the Trustur AI Speed Race, the competition intensified. GSTS picked up the pace, answering as many questions as possible correctly, which sparked loud cheers and applause from their supporters. At the end of the round, Mfantsipim School maintained their lead with 18 points, GSTS followed with 12 points, while Mankranso SHS managed five points.
Before the start of Round Three, the Prudential Life Insurance NSMQ Star Problem of the Day, Mohammed was brought in to replace Ahmed of Mfantsipim School. At the end of the round, both Mfantsipim School and GSTS secured one point, while Mankranso SHS had no points.
Before the start of Round Four, the Jupay Money Transfer True or False round, Blessed was brought in to substitute Augustine of Mankranso SHS. The round tested the accuracy and precision of the contestants’ responses. Mfantsipim School and GSTS gave each other a tough chase, competing fiercely for dominance. At the end of this round, Mfantsipim School maintained their lead with 32 points, GSTS followed with 20 points, and Mankranso SHS trailed with 15 points.
Then came the fifth and final round, the GOIL Super Bonanza, which would determine the fate of the schools. The auditorium grew so silent that one could hear a pin drop. Tension filled the air, and anticipation was at its peak as contestants rang their bells to answer the riddles.
At the final riddle, the hall erupted in loud cheers as the Mfantsipim boys answered three riddles correctly, earning them the GOIL Super Bonanza Award worth GH₵2,000 and GH₵2,520 from the MoMo Money Zone.
GSTS won GH₵600 from the GOIL Super Bonanza for answering one riddle correctly and GH₵1,308 from the MoMo Money Zone.
Mankranso SHS earned GH₵900 from the MoMo Money Zone.
