The one week observation of the demise of former Minister of Health, Samuel Nuamah Donkor, comes off tomorrow, Saturday 5, 2022 at his residence in Aburi in the Eastern Region, the family has announced.
A member of the funeral planning committee and friend to the family, Rev. Samuel Adjei Debrah, who disclosed this to the leadership of Parliament in Accra yesterday said the observation would commence at 6am and close at 6pm.
Rev. Debrah led the family to officially inform the House of the passing of the member of the first parliament of the Fourth Republic.
He said it was prudent the family informed the House considering the relationship the late Nuamah Donkor, who was also former Ashanti Regional Minister had with the House.
“We know the relationship you had with the late Samuel Nuamah”, Rev. Debrah said and added that the date for the final funeral rite would be communicated at the observatory gathering.
Receiving the delegation, the Minority Leader and Tamale South Member of Parliament (MP), Haruna Iddrisu, eulogised the late Nuamah for the role he played both at the NDC party and national levels.
“His contribution to the health sector of Ghana and the NDC is profound. He was the anchor and bridge between the leadership of the party and the grassroots,” the Tamale South MP recounted.
Mr Iddrisu said towards the end of his tenure as the president of the National Union of Ghana Students, “hardly did he see me without giving me pocket money”.
Extending his personal condolences to the family, Mr Iddrisu said the late statesman was the architect of what the NDC has become today and lived up to expectation in all capacities he served the country, adding that; “We have a duty to give him a befitting burial”.
The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on his part said the late Nuamah brought sanity to bear in the Ashanti Region with regards to politics when he served as the regional minister.
He said the late Nuamah reached across the political divide irrespective of party colorisation and was always available to divergent views.
He called on both sides of the political divide and the family to join hands to give the late politician a burial befitting of the life he lived.
The NDC stalwart, 64, died mid-August in London where he was receiving medical attention.
