The Kintampo North Municipal is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 11 of Municipalities and Districts in the Bono East Region.

The Kintampo North Municipal was created in 1988 by Legislative Instrument 1480 sequel to the Government’s decentralization programme with Kintampo as its capital.

In terms of location and size, the Municipality is strategically located at the centre of Ghana and serves as a transit point between the northern and southern sectors of the country and it is  between latitudes 8º45’N and 7º45’N and Longitudes 1º20’W and 2°1’E.The District has a surface area of about 4859 square kilometres.

The Municipality shares boundaries with Central Gonja District to the north; Bole District to the west; East Gonja Municipal to the north-east (all in the Savannah Region);  Kintampo South District to the south and Pru East District to the south-east (all in the Bono East Region).

The population of the Municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 139,508 with 69,520 males 69,988 females.
