Birim South District is one of the 260 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana and forms part of the thirty three 33 Municipalities and Districts in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
The District was created in 2008 by L.I 1850 and was carved out of the former Birim South District now Birim Central Municipal.
The Administrative Capital of the District is Akim Swedru and it covers an estimated land area of 230 square kilometers.
The District shares boundaries with Birim Central Municipal to the north, to the south with Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, to the east with West Akim Municipal and to the west with Assin Central Municipal.
The population of the district according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 35,654 with 17,420Â males and 18,234 females.
