The Bia East District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 9 MMDAs in the Western North Region.
The Bia East District was carved out of the then Bia District in 2012 by Legislative Instrument (LI) 2014 and officially inaugurated on 28th June, 2012. The District is located in the north-eastern part of the Western North Region and has a surface area of 795 square kilometers.
The District capital, Adabokrom is located 420 km to the northwest of Sekondi-Takoradi (the Regional Capital) and 585 square kilometers to Kumasi, the nearest commercial centre.
Bia East District shares boundaries with Dormaa West District and Asunafo South District in the north and east respectively. On the west and south are Bia West District and Cote d’Ivoire respectively.
The population of the District according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 53,073 with 28,154 males and 24,919 females.
