The Amansie Central District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 43 of MMDAs in the Ashanti Region and Jacobu is the Administrative capital of the District.

Amansie Central District was carved out of the erstwhile Bekwai Municipal in 2004 by Legislative Instrument (L1) 1774, in 2004 and is located in the southern part of the Ashanti Region. It can be found within Latitude 6000N and 6030N and Longitudes 1000W and 2000W.

The District shares common boundaries with Amansie East District to the north east, Amansie West District to the west, Obuasi Municipal to the south east, Adansi North District to the east, Adansi South District to the south and Upper Denkyira in the Central Region to the south.

The population of the District according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census stands at 93,052 with 48,393 males 44,659 females

Functions

Under Section 10 of the Local Government Service Act, Act 462, 1993, the functions of the Amansie Central District Assembly are deliberative, legislative and executive in nature and are spelt out as follows:

  1. Amansie Central District Assembly is responsible for the overall development of the District and shall ensure the preparation and submission to the government for approval of the development plan and budget from the district;
  2. Amansie Central District Assembly formulates programmes and strategies for the effective mobilization and utilization of human, physical, financial and other resources in the district;
  3. Amansie Central District Assembly promotes and supports productive activity and social development in the district and removes and obstacles to initiative and development in the district;
  4. Amansie Central District initiates programmes for the development of basic infrastructure and provides municipal works and services in the district;
  5. Amansie Central District Assembly is responsible for the development, improvement and management of human settlements and the environment in the district;
  6. In co- operation with the appropriate national and local security agencies the Amansie Central District Assembly is responsible for the maintenance of security and public safety in the district;
  7. Amansie Central District Assembly ensures ready access to the courts and public tribunals in the district for the promotion of justice;
  8. Amansie Central District Assembly initiates sponsors or carries out such studies as may be necessary for the discharge of any of the functions conferred by Act 462, LI or any other enactment;
  9. Amansie Central District Assembly performs such other functions as may be referred to it by the government.

Objectives

  1. To provide socio-economic infrastructure and services in the District.
  2. To ensure effective and efficient revenue mobilization and management.
  3. To ensure clean, safe and healthy environment.
  4. To promote socio-economic activities in the District especially for the vulnerable and excluded.
  5. To improve upon the logistics and human resources of the District.
  6. To enhance good governance and civic responsibility by strengthening the administrative set up.
  7. To promote effective private sector participation in the development of the District.
  8. To facilitate the development and application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) base in the District.

Vision

The vision o the Assembly is to create an optimistic, self-confident and prosperous District within a democratic open and fair society in which mutual trust and economic opportunities exist for all.

Mission

Amansie Central District Assembly exists to improve the living standards of the people in the District through the creative exploitation of our human and natural resources as well as collaboration with relevant stakeholders to implement programmes and projects relating to human development, income generation, employable skills and infrastructural development.
