The Afigya Kwabre South District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 43 of MMDAs in the Asanti Region.

Afigya Kwabre South District carved out of Kwabre East and Sekyere South Districts by the Legislative Instrument 1885 was created on 1st November, 2007 has its administrative capital as Kodie.

The District is located in the central part of Ashanti Region of Ghana and has an area of about 409.4sqkm being 1.4% of Ashanti Region between Latitudes 60 50’N and 70 10’ N, and Longitudes 10 40’ W and 10 25’ W of Ghana with a land size of about 409.4sqkm.

The location of the District in the central part of Ghana and also, along the highway which runs from the south to the north makes it easily accessible. Its closeness to the second largest city in Ghana, i.e. Kumasi makes it dormitory district as well as high population growth rate and fast growth of settlements.

The Afigya Kwabre South District is bounded by Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to the south, Sekyere South District to the north, Offinso Municipal to the west and Kwabre East Municipal to the east.

The population of the District according to the 2021 Population and Housing Census stands at 234,667 with 115,067 males and 119,600 females.
