The Biakoye District is one of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana, and forms part of the 8 of Municipalities and Districts in the Oti Region.
The District is located in the middle part of the Volta Region and lies within longitude 00 15’E and 00 45’ E and latitude 60 45’ N and 70 15’ N and covers an area of 1074 kmsq. The Administrative capital Nkonya was part of the new District and Municipalities created in the 2012 by the then president of Ghana H.E J.E.A Mills.
The District shares boundaries with Kadjebi District to the north, Jasikan District to the south and east, and to the west with Krachi East Municipal.
The population of the municipality according to 2021 population and housing census stands at 71,827
with 36,069 males and 35,758 females.
